Schläpfer, Christelle, MA of Arts, former high school teacher, Adlerian Counsellor, Educator and Lecturer, Head of edufamily® - education & counseling for schools & families.
Parents, teachers, and social care, health, and other professionals often have little appreciation for the normative developmental needs of children and young people, and how these conflict with social expectations and demands. Reviewing the bio-psycho-social preoccupations and challenges commonly associated with specific age ranges, and juxtaposing these with the ages at which behavioral and emotional symptoms and diagnoses first or commonly are noted can sharpen and shift perspectives and approaches. A developmental model and alternative case conceptualizations of diagnoses of children and youth will be presented by Dr. Karen John, psychologist, who is an independent researcher, training consultant, Adlerian psychotherapist, and a clinical and leadership supervisor and mentor.
Dr. John’s expertise is in developmental Psychology, Mental Health & Mental Illness, Social Functioning & Wellbeing, Basic & Applied Research, and Leadership. Over the past 25 years she has developed and facilitated leadership and work-based supervision programs throughout England, acting as an organizational consultant to leaders and teams involved in integrating educational, social care, health, and community services for children and families. She is a VP of Adlerian society of UK and Institute for IP, board member of ICASSI< and member of many organizations.
