Abstract

Presents a model of Adlerian social interest based on the biblical construct of agape. The model is designed to help counselors and clients better understand the Adlerian construct of social interest. The similarities between biblical agape (as described in 1 Corinthians 13:4–7) and high social interest are noted. Both constructs ultimately address the mental health of individuals. The person moving in the process toward agape or higher social interest is moving toward greater mental health. Seven attitudinal-behavioral characteristics describe persons with high social interest. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)
