Best known for pioneering the field of video-based parent education with the introduction of the Active Parenting Discussion Program in 1983, Dr. Popkin has authored and produced over thirty books and video programs including 1,2,3,4 Parents (for parents of young children), Active Parenting, 4th Edition  (for parents of 5-12-year-olds), and Active Parenting of Teens. These evidence-based programs are based on the theories of Alfred Adler and Rudolf Dreikurs, and have been used around the world to teach millions of parents how to use up-to-date parenting methods to raise happy and successful children.

A frequent keynote speaker and media guest, he has appeared on over 300 television shows including multiple appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show and Montel Williams, and as a regular parenting expert on CNN.   A graduate of Indiana University, Dr. Popkin went on to receive his Ph.D. from Georgia State University in Counseling Psychology.  Prior to founding Active Parenting Publishers, he maintained an active private practice and coordinated child and family services for Northside Community Mental Health Centers in Atlanta.  Dr Popkin lives in Atlanta with his wife, Melody, and together are the parents of two young adults.
